Horizon operates one of the largest and best-equipped laboratories in the UK. But throughout our history, Horizon hasn't been about machines – it's been about people. We have more than 50 of the industry's best and brightest, who prove time and again that even in a highly automated industry like ours, there's still no substitute for the skill of a craftsman.
That's why our people are among the most highly regarded in the industry. It's also why many frame, lens and equipment manufacturers send their products to Horizon first. Our people test and refine products and processes to determine how they can be put to work best. And to ensure they result in the highest quality end product for you and your patients.
We also hold onto our people. We have one of the lowest rates of employee turnover in the industry. It's not difficult to find Horizon employees with 20, 25 or even 30 years of service. In our lab, the average length of service is over seven years. That translates into experience and consistency you just won't find anywhere else.
Although Horizon believes its true strength to be in all the people who make up our team, every team needs a leader. And we have some of the best and most experienced there are.

As well as being its founder, Len is Horizon's chairman and chief executive. Back in 1972, Len personally completed Horizon's first job for an optician in Watford. And although these days he can normally be found providing the guiding vision for the company, he can still turn in a productive eight-hour shift in the lab during especially busy periods.
Len lectured on specialised techniques for rimless and Supra glazing at Keele University as part of the SMC's Opthalmic Glazing Course. He is past chairman of both the Ophthalmic Prescription Manufacturers Association and Comprx, and also served on the board of the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians. During his service, the FMO successfully initiated important legislative changes, such as EU standards, benefiting the entire industry. |
